It keeps yelling at me to install “Flash 9”. I click on the link it provides, download the version, and it still won’t work! ;A; Any help? Does anyone have a link to Flash 9?

I’m having that problem too, its probably a ploy by tumblr to make all the missing e users ask for support so they can be like “LOL NOPE U GOT MISSING E WE AIN’T HELPIN”

Are you using Google Chrome? Google Chrome + Flash =/= playing nice.

I have an odd obsession with formulating ionic and covalent chemical bonds. It was my homework and I was legitimately disappointed when I finished because it was like a game to me. I’m pathetic.

I have one with finding the extrema of expressions and performing derivative tests.

I’m feelin’ ya bro.

The group called Anonymous pisses me off.

They’re just a bunch of pompous, self-righteous assholes that are trying to take control of the internet and are trying to make up excuses for why what they are doing is good.

They’re nothing but your average criminals.

To the one who’s posting “Stop Advertisements” posters around the school:

I know this is for a project, but if you chose this to be the topic of your project, it is evident that you did not do much research into what you’re campaigning for.

Let us talk first as to why we have advertisements and why websites, TV channels, businesses, and billboards often contain these.

Advertisements are a method for individuals, small groups, independent businesses, and corporate businesses to advertise a service or product to a potentially large traffic of people in hopes of getting it sold. Advertisers always aim to have their advertisement placed in places with large traffic (i.e tv channels, websites such as Facebook, Google, Youtube, etc) and they pay a good amount of money for their advertisement being shown. There are many different payment methods, depending on the medium and how they expect the traffic to be. For example, if you wanted to put your advertisement on a Youtube Video, you could either pay the uploader per how many times the advertisement was seen or just have a regular pay as if they were an employee.

Now, it’s obvious based on that explanation how advertisements help websites, uploaders, channels, TV shows, business owners, etc. make money. But wait, advertisements benefit us in a rather amazing way too. In what way is that, you ask?

Free content.

Let us imagine a world without advertisements. You’re watching Youtube videos without interruption, you’re watching Hulu shows without interruption, you’re listening to Spotify without interruption, and you don’t see a glorified product anywhere. Sounds great, doesn’t it?

Wrong.

If these websites who’s primary revenue came from advertisers, how would they be able to support themselves in a world without advertisements? The answer is simple: subscription fees. Yes, you would basically have to pay for almost every single website that you use. You would have to get some sort of “golden membership” to be able to watch unlimited Youtube videos, pay per month to use Facebook, pay per channel to watch TV (or alternatively have your cable bill spiced up by a lot), etc. This would destroy the economy in multiple different scenarios.

One of the scenarios is that people would end up spending so much money to experience all of this content that they start suffering financially from it, possibly end up not being able to pay their bills because they never realized how much having a subscription to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, CBS, NBC, and CNN would actually cost.

Another way is that people completely stopped using these services, and effectively destroy the entire entertainment industry, which is one of the major fueling factors of our economy.

Is there any other damage this could do? Why yes it is.

If you oppose SOPA and PIPA and support the termination of advertisements, you are a hypocrite.

If we had no advertisements, we’d have no free access to websites to post on. If we had no free way of posting on the internet, very few people would post. If very few people post on the internet, it would be as if SOPA and PIPA had passed, and all internet innovation and free speech would eventually dissipate.

And why stop there? The reprocussions of the termination of advertisements could be endless! Want to research something? Turns out you can’t access the information on all of these useful, reliable online resources without paying a fee. Want to IM your friend? Gotta buy an online package to use their service. Want a free app to use the flash device on your phone as a flashlight? Gotta pay $0.99 for app support now.

And yes, before you say anything, I do realize this is a very capitalist point of view. But it’s ignorant to say that every part of certain things is bad. There are good things about capitalism, you just have to actually learn what capitalism is, and research, study, and think about how certain parts of it could benefit us in the short term and long term.

Logic is flawed

perrythepirate:

Mr.Deery pointed out the flaw in logical thinking to me today.

If you are digging a ditch and you have 1 person it will take 60 minutes.

With 2 people it will take 30 minutes.

This is logical thinking. It makes sense.

But now consider this, it takes a man 60 seconds to dig a single square foot hole.

According to logical thinking this also means that if you have 60 men digging this hole it will take 1 second to dig.

Logical? Yes. Possible? Not really.

Actually, this isn’t a logical statement because you’re missing key variables in this hold digging process.

In the way that this thought experiment is produced, you are assuming that you have these 60 men all almost in the exact same position in space and time, and you’re also assuming that they will all use their shovel to dig the hole at exactly the same time and x, y axis, but different z axis.

In reality, two things cannot be in the same position of space and time. It’s just not possible. So, if you were to have 60 men digging a hole, you’d have to set it up so that they are all relatively near each other on the same plane. Using logic, it will take the exact same amount of time for them all to dig the hole. The difference would be that the volume of the hole will be much larger that if it was just one man.

**Added**

I realized you could consider the thought that these workers were on the same x,y axis, but different z axis. This is still not possible, though, because this would imply that a mass majority of them are infused into the ground, which goes back to the fact that two things cannot be in the same position in space and time.

THIS.

I always wonder if it’s just our generation like this, or if other generations were too, but it wasn’t as dramatic.

Because the culture of this generation is to find ways to stand out instead of blend in, and through that pressure people try to stand out by finding/doing things that’ll make them seem or feel depressed so that they will be noticed, as opposed to older cultures where there was one idea of what a human should be and they all strived to be that.
